Why You Should Drink Water With Honey, Lemon and Apple Cider Vinegar in the Morning….with a Turmeric Shot Chaser!
The very first thing I do every morning before I go anywhere near my journal is put the kettle on…but I’m not about to brew up a lovely cup of builders tea, no, I’m creating what could legitimately be called a magic potion, that is warm water with manuka honey, juice and apple cider vinegar finished off with a turmeric shot.
Let me tell you why and you’ll be down the shops in a flash….
Look at these 10 incredible benefits:
It Helps Digestion
Drinking water, with or without lemon juice or honey, rehydrates you and gets your body and mind going again. The temperature is important though, warm water helps flush out your digestive system and rehydrates your system so you feel energised and focussed.
You’re Giving Yourself A Natural Flush
Your liver works its’ hardest whilst you are asleep as this is when your body takes time to repair and restore itself. Drinking warm water, especially with added lemon juice helps you flush out the toxins and stimulates stomach acid production. All this also helps balance your hormones so you feel balanced throughout the day.
It Boosts Your Immune System
Of course, we all know lemons contain vitamin C but did you know they also contain potassium? Potassium helps us maintain a healthy heart, balances our electrolytes and supports our digestive system. Drinking warm water with lemon helps your body absorb these two essential elements and gives your immune system a boost.
It Helps Keep Your Skin Soft and Smooth
When your body is flushing out toxins and absorbing vitamins and minerals more effectively your skin will be in much better condition. Also, the vitamin C in the lemon juice helps with collagen production and gives you softer, smoother skin.
Helps You Manage Your Weight
Drinking enough water, especially with lemon first thing in the morning increases your metabolism, which as we all know is key to maintaining a healthy weight.
So that’s just what a bit of lemon and water can does……read on to find out why you should add a teaspoon of Manuka Honey to the mix.
But first, a bit on Manuka honey. It’s a very special honey that comes from New Zealand. The Manuka tree produces compounds that contain potent antifungal, antibiotic and antibacterial properties that the lucky bees of New Zealand get to harvest from nectar on the tree’s flowers and turn in to an incredible honey that feeds good bacteria in our gut and fights off bad bacteria…did you know it can even fend off methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA).
It Helps Balance Your Blood Sugar Levels
Manuka honey contains natural sugars that won’t give you a sugar rush first thing in the morning. Your body absorbs the sugars much more slowly and helps keep your blood sugar levels stable so you won’t be tempted to snack through the morning. Also, your mood and energy will be raised.
Now, when you add a tablespoon of Apple Cider Vinegar you’re invincible!
Apple cider vinegar is made from apples, which are crushed and juiced and then distilled and fermented. The result is a liquid that is high in acetic acid, which is a natural antibacterial agent that can kill off all sorts of harmful bacteria. It’s also an antiseptic and can help treat chronic infections as well as being useful in improving joint health and alleviating joint pain.
It Reduces Cholesterol
Drinking apple cider vinegar along with Manuka honey has been shown to reduce cholesterol levels by helping the liver process fatty acids and increase bile production. It also decreases levels of LDL cholesterol (“bad” cholesterol) and increases levels of HDL cholesterol (“good” cholesterol).
It Keeps Your Heart Healthy
Combining Apple Cider Vinegar with Manuka Honey helps keep your heart healthy. As we’ve seen it helps reduce bad cholesterol but it also helps prevent blood clots and reduces the risk of strokes and heart attacks. It also helps lower high blood pressure.
It helps Reduce Inflammation
Your mix of apple cider vinegar and Manuka honey helps you keep a healthy alkaline pH level, which in turn prevents inflammation in your body. We even have Nobel Prize winning doctors telling us that inflammation in our bodies is associated with serious disease and drinking Apple Cider Vinegar can help turn that around. Of course, vinegar is naturally acidic but it turns alkaline when we drink it. Honey, too, has a low pH, but raises the alkalinity of the body when you eat it.
Honey and Apple cider vinegar are perfect in helping reduce the acidity of our bodies and creating a more protective pH level in our bodies.
It May Even Help Prevent Cancer
There are some studies that show Apple Cider Vinegar can inhibit or slow the growth of some cancer cells and there is also evidence that Manuka honey has an anti-cancer effect in clinical trials. Of course, this isn’t a cure for cancer but creating a healthy environment in our bodies can only be helpful.
Pretty powerful stuff isn’t it!
Here’s a recipe to help you make sure you easily enjoy the benefits of these amazing ingredients every morning:
First thing in the morning mix the following together
- 1 mug of warm water – slightly off the boil
- The juice of half a large lemon.
- A teaspoon of Manuka Honey. It must have a UMF rating of 10+ to give you any of the benefits I’ve spoken about.
- A tablespoon of Apple Cider Vinegar. Preferably organic with The Mother. (this just means it contains the most beneficial bacterial culture)
Sip slowly on an empty stomach.
Then if you want to supercharge your morning have a Turmeric Shot!
Because turmeric is one of the most powerful blood cleansing spices on the planet and it has been used for thousands of years for medicinal purposes but here in the West we are only just catching up.
It’s an anti-inflammatory super food that is also an antibacterial and antiseptic and has the power to fight diseases such as cancer, arthritis, heart disease and all sort of stomach and digestive conditions.
It is also a powerful antioxidant and as I’ve said a blood cleanser that helps our liver and kidneys flush out toxins from our bodies.
So why wouldn’t you!
Here’s a recipe to help you enjoy these benefits too:
1 teaspoon of powdered turmeric
Mix with hot water
Add a touch of Manuka honey if preferred
I mix the powder with enough hot water to make a loose paste in an espresso cup. Then I top it up with cold water and drink it down in one. It has a very earthy taste but I’m now used to it. If you find it too horrible build up from a smaller quantity and add a little touch of Manuka honey to make it more palatable. It is worth the effort!
